Why would you have a direct cremation?

A direct cremation, also known as a no-service cremation or a simple cremation, is a contemporary choice for people who do not want a funeral service bound in tradition. It offers a low cost funeral that allows you to bid a respectful farewell in a simple way.

Is direct cremation a good idea?

If you know that the person who has died wished for a direct cremation, or you'd prefer to celebrate and remember their life in another way, rather than holding a traditional funeral, then a direct cremation can be a good choice.

Do you have a coffin for a direct cremation?

A direct cremation typically involves a simple container, which may be made from cardboard or another cheaper material, rather than solid wood. UK law states that a body must be covered in public, so a shroud or other covering may be used instead, Most funeral directors include an appropriate coffin within the cost of the direct cremation service.

Who attends a direct cremation?

99% of direct cremations are unattended. In most cases, there are no mourners at a direct cremation. However, some venues permit a small number of people to attend. This almost always incurs an extra charge and timings and numbers will be limited.

Will you know when the cremation takes place?

The funeral director is in charge of arranging a cremation date and time of their choosing. Family members are not notified of this. Therefore, you will not know when the cremation will take place.

Are direct cremations respectful?

A direct cremation is a completely respectful and honourable cremation service that respects every individuals wishes and beliefs. However, you should be confident that the cremation will be undertaken in an efficient and caring manner by a funeral director with a good reputation and experienced staff.

How much does a direct cremation cost?

One of the main benefits of a direct cremation is the cost, as it’s around 60% cheaper than a traditional funeral. It is considered to be the cheapest funeral option and ashes can still be returned to the family afterwards if this is their wish.

Can you visit the deceased before a direct cremation?

Many funeral directors do not provide visitation of the deceased. Bennetts, however, provides the opportunity for up to 12 family members to attend our specially prepared chapel of rest.n

What happens to the ashes after a direct cremation?

The ashes are usually placed in a temporary urn and returned to the funeral home for collection by family.

It’s time to get your dancing shoes on at the Bennetts Community Tea Dance in Brentwood

The Bennetts Community monthly tea dance is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month throught the year.

From 2pm – 4pm at The Nightingale Centre, Pastoral Way, Brentwood, CM14 5GB.

Ticket costs are just £5 per session, which include tea or coffee and a cake. (Carers attend free of charge)

A great monthly get together

With the dancing led by Michelle from Dancing Fusion, this monthly get together is especially great for people who are socially isolated and have learning difficulties or dementia.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and socialise with others in the community- some people come along to listen to the music, others love to dance, and everyone can make new friends and catch up with old ones.
