Home » Smashing the Stigma – A Community Event

Losing someone to suicide is one of the most difficult and lonely experiences a person can have.

Join us for a community event on Sunday 8th September at Butterfly Meadow, in Shenfield, near Brentwood in Essex, for an afternoon entitled ‘Smashing the Stigma’, which will run from 1.00pm until 4.30pm. This event reaches out to those who have lost loved ones, friends or colleagues to suicide

Support after Suicide

This event came about after a local minister contacted Bennetts Funeral Directors and asked us to work together with them on an event following a death by suicide within their family unit; this was the trigger we needed as we had wished to confront this tragic subject for some time.

There is no timetable for grief. No two journeys are alike, yet some things are commonly experienced at various points in that journey and being with those that understand is crucial to coping.

This is a FREE Event

If you’re intending to come along, you can register through the QR code on the above poster, call on 01277 210104 or email us at info@bennettsfunerals.co.uk or.  This is purely to assist with catering requirements.  Everyone is welcome on the day and registration is optional.

The afternoon is dedicated to those who have lost loved ones to suicide. It is an opportunity to talk to others who have had similar experiences, pray if desired, gather information, and be around people who truly understand what you’re going through.

A butterfly badge will be worn by those who are open to talking to others, and a plan is being formulated so anyone attending can be part of making a butterfly mosaic for Butterfly Meadow.

Other age relevant activities will be available for those who would like to take part.

An opportunity to share and inform

We’ve been in touch with Andy’s Man Club, The Craig Tyler Trust, Mind and Papyrus, Survivors of Bereavement Through Suicide, Renew and several other organisations who will be there.  We will have refreshments, counsellors and others available who can lend an ear and signpost to ongoing support, for adults and children.

Essex Working Well and Brentwood Borough Council are supporting the event too, plus St Mary’s Church who are letting us use the church and Butterfly Meadow.

We welcome other local support organisations to take part and help on the day, the more volunteers the better!

We hope to see you!

We very much look forward to seeing you on the day.

Note : There is limited parking, please use the local side streets to endeavour to keep the bend near the church clear.
